My dad’s dementia has gotten worse. He has been acting increasingly aloof to me. I knew he was forgetting who I was. But it hurt me when I came back from work and he yelled at me to leave the house. My mum had to take him into the room for me to sneak in.

What happens if one day he forgets my mum too? Anyone with experience to share?

Oh bless you, I know how much that will have pained you. Unfortunately dementia affects recognition even of loved ones but this due to the illness not to any loss of love.

Be calm, and slowly try and introduce yourself again, comfort him more than correcting. You are not alone in this.

Hi @otiliagirjoaba, this means so much to me. I feel less alone knowing someone out there understands me. I try to think he is not dementia and it helps... You are so kind. Be blessed.
