Is it normal for elderly patients at home to struggle with basic nighttime bathroom needs, even when they are otherwise mobile during the day?

I’ve noticed in some home care situations that elderly individuals who can manage basic movement during the day still struggle significantly at night when it comes to using the bathroom safely. This seems inconsistent at first, they may appear relatively stable during daytime activities, but nighttime becomes more challenging due to fatigue, confusion, or mobility limitations.

I wanted to ask caregivers here:
1. Is this a common pattern in elderly care at home?
2. And how do families typically handle these nighttime situations in a safe and practical way without causing distress or disrupting sleep too much?
3. Would appreciate any real-world insight.
